August
11th OPERATION NOT NORMAL, when we start the engines the inverter (a device that
charges the batteries from a 110 source and supply 110 for thing like microwave,
TV, Tools, computers etc.) started so sing out in a loud warning, BATTERY TOO
LOW. I reset the alarm and it quits
protesting. THEN YOU HAVE TO PUT IT OUT
OF YOUR MIND sometimes, MANY OF THESE WARNINGS COULD BE NOTHING OF
CONSEQUENCE.
This time the WARNING IS CORRECT.
I will deal with it when I can get my head around it. We arrive in Napier bay, it is a spectacular
moorage. Particularly when the old
logging dock is vacant and it is. Chevy
really likes the dock attached to dirt and grass as she does not have to ask
permission for shore duty. There is fishing out the front door. There are blackberries in full bloom, good
crabbing almost off the dock. There are
miles and miles of smooth logging roads to ride a bike or walk (Penny makes me
walk, I don’t like that part). There is
a large lake to fish or swim (see last year’s blog) that is about a 45 min
WALK. Don’t like to talk about the walk
part again.
There are a number 50 ft. American yachts
anchored in the bay. We tie to the dock
leaving the other side free for shore duty for anchored vessels and we welcome
any vessel to tie up, as it IS NOT OUR PRIVATE DOCK. We have visitors from the “Betty Marie” with
their smaller better looking RAT dog than our scruffy little girl. The Admiral of the vessel introduces the dog
Oscar and herself Catherine. We chat about
fishing and things. She mentioned that
on a previous trip to Alaska SHE CAUGHT MORE FISH THAN HUBBY (he had been
skunked so far on this trip). I think
that this could have been a little stretch of exaggeration as HE was not here
to defend himself.
