RETURN TO FURY
I don’t know why we turn south away from Hakai
as the world's best fishermen have beaten up their life savings to come fishing
RIGHT HERE.
We cruise past guide boats barely
acknowledge their existence right at the point where we turn south to FURY. I
guess I just feel guilty for not taking advantage of the opportunity.
We go on the VHF radio and call the “Lily D”
to keep in touch, but no response. Bob on “Osprey” a (50 ft. DeFever) comes on
and they are fishing in their not so little dinghy off Fury. He cannot contain himself and tells us that
he has just landed a large spring salmon.
I am hardly jealous (sure) and I inform him that Fisheries has closed this area
(just Kidding), but Bob is no dummy. I
can imagine the jaws on about 60 other fishermen in the immediate area all thinking
they are going to jail.
He calls my bluff and we have a good laugh
on the air. We are invited to tie
alongside in Fury but Pen and I have been spoiled by our independence. We thank him and put the hook down nearby and
take Chevy for a beach visit.
Coming into Fury just behind us is a beautiful 65 ft.
Fleming. (My favorite yacht.) I can see
her name is “VENTURE”. On shore duty
with Chevy I pass her stern to check out the Port of Registry and it is Fleming
DL, I think it is Tony Fleming’s personal Yacht.
Chevy and I get a wave out the window but it
getting late to socialize; perhaps tomorrow I can justify a good morning
chat.
