A GREAT ADVENTURE ENDS FOR ALEXANDER MACKENZIE 1793
Heading southwest on Dean Channel we locate the cairn for Alexander Mackenzie’s last stop of his journey across North America.
This is a reminder of the great accomplishment by
Alexander Mackenzie. As a school boy reading his adventures this is the
explanation mark for his westward trek.
He ended the trek here because the waters beyond this Bella Coola
Indians guides could not guarantee his safety. This was Bella Bella territory
and perhaps not friendly. A few miles west on the north side of Dean Channel
there are pictographs that are thought to be the real boundary lines for each
native tribe. .
